Goal: Body Comp, Relationship and Education with Food
“My relationship with food and exercise has always been complex! I was always conscious of my weight as a teenager which led to disordered eating and excessive exercise. Fortunately, I was lucky to have such a great support network who helped me to overcome the worst of it but despite improving my relationship with both food and exercise, I longed for a sense of ‘normality’. On the surface I was healthy – a good BMI, regular exercise and a healthy diet but underneath I was ‘skinny fat’ and had a poor body perception, I struggled with my energy levels which negatively impacted my time with my family because my mood and energy was inconsistent and my biggest demon driving it all was my emotional eating. Using food in response to both highly positive and negative emotions rather than actually feeling them. With that came guilt and shame which prevented me from fully opening up about it when I worked with Personal Trainers over the years so although I had some success improving my body composition on/off, it was only ever short-term – none of those programmes helped me address the root cause…until Kylie.
Total transparency, Kylie is one of my oldest friends – more than that, she was part of that support network that helped me overcome my disordered eating. As her friend, I am enormously proud and inspired by her journey and seeing how she has flourished but I had convinced myself I was beyond help, that her knowing my history and our friendship would be a blocker in some way and the idea of working with her and letting her down because I couldn’t remain committed and get results for the long-term stopped me from asking for her help.
I couldn’t have been more wrong, and it was a fleeting comment one day that changed all that and it has been utterly life-changing. We have been working together for almost 6 months and I can honestly say this is the best I have ever felt consistently mind, body and soul.
Kylie really dug deep to help me articulate the outcomes I wanted to achieve. They were always my goals and never what she thought I should be working on and over the months, we have kept re-visiting them which has really helped keep me on track and motivated. I was apprehensive about how she’d be able to help me with my training from the other side of the world (I’m based in the UK!) but it’s been brilliant! Full demo’s, an expert eye for the smallest thing that might be impacting my form and so unbelievably knowledgeable in her field. She strikes exactly the right balance between tough love and nurturing – calling me out when I need to be more accountable or being too hard on myself. But what I value most about Kylie’s approach is how authentic and relatable she is. She displays a level of openness and vulnerability that creates the conditions for you to be your whole self with no judgement and uses that to help you build truly sustainable habits that support your goals. I have achieved more than I ever thought would be possible after just 6 months and can’t wait to see where we can take it to next. I say this as her client and not as her friend…. she’s a game changer!”
